In Caraga, the Agusan Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary in Agusan del Sur was proclaimed in 1996 (Proclamation 913) and became a Ramsar site in 1999; it covers about 14,836 hectares of marshland. In Talacogon, the Agusan Marsh barangays are mostly Manobo, per the Loreto ancestral domain plan.

• Lots around Agusan Marsh: The sanctuary was proclaimed in 1996 and the marsh floods seasonally. In Talacogon, Loreto or La Paz, it is advisable to ask DENR whether your lot lies inside the sanctuary, and have a Geodetic Engineer plot your corners on its boundary.
• Mining contract areas next to lots: A contract area granted to Hinatuan Mining in Tagana-an covers 773.77 hectares, about 10% of the town. If your lot is near a mine in Surigao del Norte or Dinagat, it helps to check with MGB whether any tenement touches your boundary.
• Siargao beachfront and mangrove lots: Siargao and Bucas Grande are a protected landscape and seascape with a large mangrove forest. For a lot in General Luna or Del Carmen, ask DENR which area class applies before relying on a tax declaration.
• Philippine Fault and Lake Mainit: After the 2017 quake on the Philippine Fault (Surigao segment), a surface rupture was mapped in Barangay Ipil, Surigao City. Lake Mainit is shared by Mainit, Alegria, Jabonga and Kitcharao; a lakeshore survey shows where your boundary runs against the water.
